Here are 4 things you shouldn't include in your resume

Have you ever wondered if you're including something in your resume that's a big no-no? If yes, you're in the right place!

Without further ado, here are 4 things you should stop including in your resume, starting today:

1️⃣ Personal info, e.g. your date of birth, age, marital status, etc.

It might have been common practice ages ago, but today it is either illegal or highly discouraged for your potential employer to request this data from you, so no need to include it.

Same for your full physical address. No one needs it at this stage.

2️⃣ Objective Statement.

This is completely irrelevant in today's job market. What recruiters want to know is whether you can do well in the job or not. Focus on writing a powerful Profile Summary that demonstrates your value.

You can keep your long-term career reflections for your diary or for the interview if asked.

3️⃣ "References available upon request".

Don't waste precious real estate on your CV by stating the obvious. If your potential employers want some references, they'll definitely ask you whether you add this mention or not.

Note that if you can let your references know ahead of time that a recruiter might be calling them, that's better.

4️⃣ Hobbies.

Nobody cares (as much as you do). Especially if they're not related to the job you're applying for. If you really want to include them somewhere, try LinkedIn.
